About

One of the world's best

The New York Times logo

For the first time since 2020, Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) brings its rigor, artistry, and stunning stagecraft back to City Center with a season of unforgettable works. Legendary choreographer William Forsythe brings his quartet N.N.N.N., a piece for four dancers that explores the linkages and breaking points of bodies in motion.

Following in the tradition of NDT dancers developing their choreographic careers with the company, Imre van Opstal and Marne van Opstal collaborate with the design company DRIFT to set the company’s uniquely exacting technique against thrillingly theatrical scenic design in The Point Being, a US premiere work. And renowned choreographic duo Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar introduce Jakie, a 35-minute opus making its US debut after a world premiere in May 2023.

3 Things to Know

3 Things to Know

William Forsythe is known for revolutionizing the form of ballet with his boundary-pushing movement. His piece N.N.N.N. features four dancers who create a soundscape with their bodies and breath, allowing audiences “to see the music and hear the dance.”

Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar bring the influence of techno to the stage in their piece Jakie, which incorporates pulsing, hypnotic rhythms in the soundscape and sensual yet rigorous movements in the choreography.

One of NDT’s hallmarks is the intersection between dance and other forms of media, as seen in The Point Being, where the lighting installation by DRIFT is in conversation with the choreography by Imre van Opstal and Marne van Opstal.
